Method Description:

The sample is extracted using saponification in basic solution, neutralized, diluted and cleaned up. The extract is then separated using High Performance Liquid Chromatography and the vitamin A content quantitated by UV-VIS detection.

This method determines the quantity of vitamin A in food products which includes fortified (retinyl palmitate) and natural occurring forms of vitamin A(retinol and retinyl acetate).
