Additional Information:

Energy Dispersive (X-Ray) Spectroscopy, or EDS, is an analytical technique that utilizes the scattered X-rays generated by the electron beam on a Scanning Electron Microscope to identify and quantify the elements that constitute a sample.

Our lab deals primarily with foreign material, food matrices and ingredients. We cannot provide strict quantitative analysis. We can, however, do comparisons and provide semi-quantitative analysis. This can provide invaluable information to exclude potential sources of foreign material or confirm the identity of a type of material. EDS is non-destructive but some modifications may need to be made to the sample to effectively analyze it.

Our lab also maintains optical microscopes and an FTIR with a microscope. This equipment is used to complement the EDS analysis if the sample is found to be better analyzed by either of those techniques. Each sample is unique and we can work with you to provide the analysis you need.
